一. Waterproofing membrane (preferred for large-scale projects)
SBS modified asphalt membrane: good elasticity, strong low-temperature crack resistance, suitable for roofs and basements in cold/temperate regions; mainly used for hot-melt construction.
APP modified asphalt roll: High temperature resistance, anti-aging, suitable for roofing and exposed projects in hot regions.
Self-adhesive modified asphalt roll: No open flame required, safe to use in construction, suitable for basements, non-exposed roofs, and home improvement leak repairs.
EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) coil: high elasticity, excellent weather resistance, long service life, used for high-end exposed roofs and large venues.
TPO membrane: environmentally friendly, good heat weldability, and resistance to root penetration, suitable for green roofs, large factories, and utility tunnels.
二. Waterproof coating (special-shaped parts, commonly used in home decoration, seamless coating)
1. Polymer cement (JS) waterproof coating: water-based and environmentally friendly, can be applied on damp substrates, and has strong adhesive strength; it is the mainstay for waterproofing in home decorations of bathrooms, kitchens, and balconies.
2. Polyurethane waterproof coating (single/two-component): high elasticity, strong impermeability, and resistance to acids and alkalis; suitable for basements, swimming pools, and tunnels, but some solvent-based types have an odor.
3. Acrylic waterproof coating: water-based, good weather resistance, color adjustable; widely used for exterior wall waterproofing, old roof maintenance, and lightweight roofing.
三. Rigid waterproof materials (structural self-waterproofing, used in conjunction with flexibility)
1. Waterproof concrete/waterproof mortar: By using a dense mix ratio and waterproofing agents, a rigid barrier is formed. It is used for self-waterproofing of basement floors, side walls, pools, and foundations. Its disadvantage is poor crack resistance.
2. Cementitious capillary crystalline waterproof coating: It can penetrate into the pores of concrete and crystallize to seal, suitable for enhancing structural self-waterproofing and sealing leaks on the back face.
四. Sealing and Leakage Stopping Materials (Dedicated for Joints/Gaps)
1. Silicone sealant: strong weather resistance, anti-aging, used for sealing door and window frames, curtain walls, and expansion joints.
2. Polyurethane sealant: It has good elasticity and strong bonding strength, making it suitable for dynamic deformation joints (such as in basements and bridges).
3. Butyl tape: self-adhesive, good sealing performance, used for detailed joints such as pipe roots, internal and external corners, window frames, etc.
4. Bentonite waterproofing blanket: Natural sodium-based bentonite swells into a paste when exposed to water and is used in landfills, artificial lakes, and  projects.
五. Core suggestions for model selection
Home decoration for bathroom/kitchen: Prioritize JS waterproof coating, with reinforcement layers at wall corners and pipe roots + closed water test.
Roofing: For exposed areas, choose TPO/EPDM or APP rolls; for non-exposed areas, choose SBS rolls or self-adhesive rolls.
Basement: A composite waterproofing system consisting of flexible rolls (external waterproofing and external bonding), rigid impermeable concrete, and node sealing.
Large temperature difference / Deformation location: Flexible materials must be primarily used to avoid direct exposure of rigid materials to tension.
六. Supplementary points
1. Construction quality > material itself: The key lies in ensuring a flat and dry base layer, reinforced joints, and proper overlap/application thickness, as well as conducting a closed water test for 24–48 hours.
2. Environmental protection trend: Water-based coatings, solvent-free products, and hot-welded coils are gradually replacing highly polluting solvent-based materials.
